TROUBLE SHOOTING and FAQ’s

1. My Blade doesn’t fit –

All our handles are number 3 handles and made to follow an ISO specification that has been a Universal Standard for over 70 years. So, as a result, all blades that fit a number 3 handle (#10, #10D, #10R, #10S ) , #11, #15, #14 and variations of these numbers should all fit a Lumohs Dermaplane or Lumohs MD Handle. However, occasionally , we have found that certain “custom made” blades have slight variations in their slot dimensions, thickness or overall rear size. We have found this with some #10S custom blades. For those , it may take a little more force to insert them on to Lumohs , Or, we can adjust our overmolds for any handle that doesn’t seem to work.

TIPS ON BLADE INSERTION

Make sure there is no space gap (circle in photo below) in the slot of the blade when fully inserted- if so, push the blade forcefully on to the stainless steel fitting so it is fully seated and no space gap- see photo below

See small gap, arrows pointing to it, on this custom made #10 R Blade. 2 solutions: This blade needs to be more forcefully pushed back to be fully seated, OR, if not able too, contact us and Lumohs will make and adjustment in dimensions of your handle to accommodate these blades.

2. The rear portion of blade flexes up on the light transmitting portion of Lumohs.

Answer this flex upward is normal and part of the normal design of the way the handles and the blades interact together. Some blades , usually custom ones, may have more flex as their rear portion may be longer than the spec calls for. As a result, more upward flex is normal.
NOTE

This flex is normal and should allow the blade to push back fully seated as far as the possible to get the “click” or to see no air gap in the slot on the blade as per #1 Troubleshooting above. The rear portion of the slot should be retained by the rear portion of the stainless steel bayonet, keeping blade from moving forward to know its fully seated. Your blade should be able to be removed easily from handle. If so, contact customer service.

3. The Blade can easily slide off Lumohs

This should not happen at all. If it is happening there are 3 possible fixes:

  1. The blade is not fully seated and needs to pushed with more force in a rear direction to insure there is no air gap (as shown in #1 above)
  2. The rear of the blade , often a custom blade, (due to being slightly off spec), prevents the blade from being fully seated, the fix is: try manually pushing down on the flex to insure it seats behind and catches the rear of the stainless steel bayonet (see figure below)  OR send us your handle and we will make adjustments in your overmold to accommodate this for your preferred custom blades.
NOTE
In some instances, some custom blades , often 10S, have a rear length beyond the slot that may vary or be beyond the spec. There are 2 fixes for this:
  1. After fully seating the blade to the rear on the stainless steel bayonet, manually push down in the directions of the arrows to insure the slot on blade catches the rear of stainless steel bayonet. This should solve problem
  2. If not, please contact support and we will take your handle back and make adjustments to accommodate the custom blades you prefer.

3. Note- do not use a blade that can be easily removed. Email help@lumohs.com for customer service if you cannot fix this. We can modify any handle to fit any blade if your custom blade appears to not fit properly.

4. The blade does not remove easily.

The rear of the blade has “flex” in it and is what helps exert a force to remove the blade off the handle when blade is lifted up from this rear flex portion and then slid forward off of Lumohs.

5. The light flickers

It is very rare for the LED light to “burn out”, nor , would it be likely that the electronics are malfunctioning. The most common cause of a flickering light is :

  1. Incorrectly installed battery cartridge
  2. Faulty battery cartridge
  3. Kink or bend in the center of the battery cartridge affecting the connections. 

6. The light does not turn on.

It is very rare for the lumohs handle light not to turn on , due to a handle issue, it is also very rare for the LED light to “burn out”, nor , would it be likely that the electronics are malfunctioning. The most common cause of a flickering light is :

  1. Incorrectly installed battery cartridge
  2. Faulty battery cartridge
  3. Kink or bend in the center of the battery cartridge affecting the connections. 

7. How long should a battery cartridge last?

Each Lumohs Battery cartridge – (shrink wrapped quad AAAA batteries) – should last between 4 and 5 hours of continuous run time. We estimate if you spend 20 minutes performing a dermaplaning procedure , then each cartridge should enable 12-15 dermaplaning treatments (thus average cost per dermaplaning ranges .50-.66 cents per treatment). There are less expensive batteries you can buy online but we don’t recommend or warranty as there are no quality control done on those less expensive batteries. We sell LUMOHS Battery Packs (which contain 8 LUMOHS Battery Cartridges).

8. How do I protect or clean my handle for dermaplaning?

Basically, there are several options here.

The first option is the Wipe down option. This option is most used by estheticians. First, carefully remove the blade and dispose of in a sharp’s container as you would with any handle, then clean Lumohs Dermaplane by wiping down handle with a disinfecting wipe, such as a Chlorox wipe for instance.

The second option is the autoclave option. This option is most used by dermatology or plastic surgery  offices. First, carefully remove the blade and dispose of in a sharp’s container as you would with any handle, then , REMOVE BATTERIES (don’t forget this step) , replace end cap on handle, and autoclave as you would with any surgical instrument.

The third option is the protective sheath option. This would be simply using a “Bovie” clear plastic sheath that fits over the handle and protects the handle from contamination during use. We sell Bovie Sheaths, both sterile and non sterile on www.dermaplane.co .
